Pole to Pole adventures for globe-trotting childrenJanuary 4th, 2019
Children at a creative Monmouth school enjoyed a memorable adventure on the first day of the new term.
The youngsters at Monmouth Schools Pre-Prep and Nursery brought their suitcases and had their passports stamped before heading off to experience the cultures of Australia, Africa and Antarctica on Thursday 3rd January.
As part of the new Pole to Pole theme, Year 2 pupils will be learning about Australia, while Africa is the subject for Year 1 and children in reception will be exploring Antarctica.
The activities will include trips to Bristol Zoo, an African drumming workshop, and a visit from Zoolab with antipodean animals.
Children will be challenged to build an igloo, take part in virtual tours of the countries, and be encouraged to write to new pen friends in Australia.
Headmistress at Monmouth Schools Pre-Prep and Nursery, Mrs Jennie Phillips, said: “As part of our creative curriculum, the Pole to Pole topic is designed to bring geography to life for the children.
“It will increase the children’s understanding of global responsibility and citizenship and give them a lot of fun along the way. The children will be learning about the continents and making links between different cultures.”
