Oxford University Languages Taster Day

March 17, 2015

IMG_2587wOn Tuesday 10th March a group of Year 9 girls participated in a Languages Taster day at Oxford University.  The girls had the opportunity to meet current languages students and lecturers at the university, as well as enjoying a tour of Brasenose, Balliol and Somerville Colleges.  They attended languages sessions on, amongst other topics, the intricacies of translating Harry Potter into French and the origins of ancient Greek.  The final session of the day was a talk on career opportunities for linguists which opened their eyes to a multitude of potential employment.  The girls were inspired by the warm welcome and passion for languages from pupils and staff alike and Oxford’s dreaming spires beckon enticingly as a very exciting possibility for the future.
