Monmouth student, Iwan, has won a bronze medal for Great Britain at the World Rowing Junior Championships in Japan.

Eighteen-year-old Iwan, a sports scholar at Monmouth School for Boys, stroked the GB VIII in Tokyo.

Iwan’s GB crew recovered from a tough start to come through from the back of the field to take third place behind USA and Germany.

Fellow Monmouth student, Jack, steered the GB coxed four to gold and silver medals at the 2019 Coupe de la Jeunesse in Corgeno, Italy.

Master in Charge of Rowing at Monmouth School for Boys, Mr John Griffiths, said: “Iwan’s result helps to highlight what a great environment we have created at Monmouth School for Boys Rowing Club.

“His wonderful success for Great Britain is opening the eyes to the potential of Monmouth as a place to row at school.

“Jack, who represented Great Britain in Italy, and Iwan have been unbelievable ambassadors for our school on the world stage.”
