Mrs Sian Morgan (left) and Miss Laura Warren have joined Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools.

Two new teachers are on a mission to highlight the life-long benefits of sport and exercise to girls.

Miss Laura Warren and Mrs Sian Morgan are passionate about sport and have just taken up new roles in the PE Department at Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools.

Miss Warren, who will be teaching lacrosse, plays the sport for Great Britain and Wales, co-owns a fitness club for females in Chepstow, and mentors promising young athletes.

Miss Warren, who has played in five World Cups and been named to the All-World Team, won the Pitman Training Working Mum of the Year honour in 2018

Mrs Morgan, who will be teaching netball, is also a mother of two.

She is a former Head of Girls’ PE at St Peter’s Preparatory School in Devon and was Head of the Netball Academy at Bodmin College in Cornwall.

Her brother, Jethro Binns, a former pupil at Monmouth School for Boys, works as a squash coach after playing the sport professionally.

Both Miss Warren and Mrs Morgan hold PGCE qualifications and will be teaching PE at Monmouth School Girls’ Prep and Monmouth School for Girls.

Miss Warren, who founded Fitmuma UK, a membership-based fitness planning website, said: “Sport is a major part of my life and I have come to Monmouth to develop lacrosse further.

“I am particularly looking forward to preparing our girls for the National Schools Lacrosse Championships in Aldershot in March.”

Miss Warren, who was also short-listed for Personal Trainer of the Year in 2018, is hoping to play for Wales in this summer’s European Lacrosse Championships in Israel.

Miss Warren, who was educated at Howell’s School in Cardiff before earning a scholarship to the University of Maryland in the USA, added: “The overriding goal for Sian and me is to have a positive influence on the lives of the girls and to promote the well-being and lifelong benefits of sport and exercise.”

Mrs Morgan played netball for South-East Wales and the county, was member of the Wales Development Squad, captained Exeter University and played for the English Universities team.

“The girls at Monmouth are very keen and able, enthusiastic and have been a pleasure to teach,” said Mrs Morgan, who was educated at King Henry VIII School in Abergavenny.

“We have some very exciting months ahead with the netball, including the Habs’ 7 tournament, which our first team won last season.”

Director of Sport, Miss Lou Scott, said: “We are delighted to welcome Laura and Sian to Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools.

“Their knowledge, expertise and enthusiasm will not only bolster our department but, importantly, will improve the experience of our students further.

“Laura and Sian are both passionate about sport, exercise and education and will be very positive and popular additions to our schools.”
