Harry heads the field at the Welsh Athletics Junior Championships in Wrexham.

A Monmouth schoolboy has confirmed his position as the leading middle-distance track runner in Wales for his age group.

Harry, a pupil at Monmouth School for Boys, won both the 800m and 1,500m races at the Welsh Athletics Junior Championships in Wrexham.

The 12-year-old hit top form at the Queensway Stadium at the weekend to clinch the two Welsh Under-13 Boys’ titles.

Harry stormed to a new personal best of 4:49.83 as he won the 1,500 metres and clocked 2:21.13 in the 800m for his second fastest time this season.

It has capped a tremendous six months  for Harry, who won the Welsh indoor 800m and 1,500m titles earlier this year.

Harry, who runs for Newport Harriers, now has four Welsh national titles to his name and is showing tremendous promise as an all-round athlete.

It was also an excellent weekend for fellow Monmouth School for Boys’ pupil, Aharon, who bagged two bronze medals.

The 12-year-old competed as a junior at under-15 level, taking bronze in the pole vault with 2.45m and also in the triple jump with a distance of 9.45m and a new personal best.

Aharon also took part in the long jump and 200m where he put in some very good performances against boys a year older.

Harry, meanwhile, had to withdraw from the Under-13 Boys’ javelin event due to a recurring niggle in his lower back.

However, Harry’s throw of 33.57m at Yeovil in April was better than the champion- winning throw in Wrexham of 32.58m and he still leads the rankings in Wales.

Harry is currently ranked in the top 20 in the UK for javelin and 800m, and in the top 40 for 1500m.
