National Schools’ Regatta 2024

June 5, 2024

Seven crews proudly represented our school at The National Schools’ Regatta over the Bank Holiday Weekend – the UK’s premier rowing event for junior athletes, featuring over 5,270 competitors aged 14 to 18.

Despite a challenging winter marked by significant time off the water due to flooding, our crews showcased their finest efforts on the Olympic Rowing course. This truly demonstrated their fitness, strength, resilience, determination, and teamwork. Guided and inspired by their coxes, each boat gained invaluable racing experience and delivered outstanding performances in both the time trials and side-by-side races.

Both the Junior 15 and J16 coxed fours earned their place in the A final by finishing in the top six of their 22-event time trial. The J15 crew displayed remarkable grit and self-belief in the final 300 meters of the 2000-meter race, surging to secure fourth place at the finish line – an exhilarating moment for parents and coaches alike!

The J16 crew showed exceptional bravery throughout the final, finishing in sixth place. Their performance exemplified teamwork, commitment, leadership, and enjoyment, all while balancing their academic responsibilities. They are a testament to the possibility of maintaining sporting commitments alongside external examinations.

A special mention goes to our Junior 14 crew, who raced for the first time at National Schools’. We have no doubt they will return next year even stronger, aiming for the A final and contending for medals.

We’re so grateful for the rowing coaches, parents, and catering staff for ensuring the weekend ran smoothly. We are immensely proud of our students – they are truly “OARSOME!”
