Talented musicians from Monmouth School for Girls will be vying for the coveted Blue Riband title later this week.
The music competition is a major part of the school’s annual Eisteddfod celebrations and takes place at Hamersley Hall on Friday 23rd March from 4.15pm.
The adjudicator, Mr Paul Hunt, is a former head of strings at Monmouth School for Boys, where he was a teacher for more than three decades.
The candidates, representing the Bagnall Oakeley, Imbert Terry, Mather Jackson and Prosser houses, include flautists, pianists and singers.
Director of Music at Monmouth School for Girls, Mrs Amy Clouter, said: “The annual Blue Riband Music Competition is the high point of the senior musical calendar and the standard this year is particularly high.
“Parents, friends and staff are welcome to come along and watch – there will be refreshments available before and after the competition. Good luck to all performers.”

The Eisteddfod is one of the highlights of the academic year at Monmouth and it was due to be celebrated with a full programme of activities on St David’s Day.
However, heavy snowfall forced its postponement.
Earlier this month, creative writer Eleanor Woodhead was crowned this year’s Bard.
Eleanor was recognised for her powerful poem which illustrated the freedom of childhood.
The 17-year-old represented the Imbert Terry house.
The popular House Choir competitions are due to be held on Thursday 29th March at 2pm.
