Two speedy sportsmen from Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools have clinched East Wales titles at the Welsh Athletics Junior Open in Cardiff.
Monmouth School for Boys’ Josh and Monmouth School Boys’ Prep pupil Harry shone in the 1,500m events at the National Indoor Athletic Centre (NIAC).
Josh triumphed for East Wales in the under-15 Boys’ section and Harry, who competed a year early, took gold in the under-13 Boys’ event.
Harry’s sister, Antonia, a pupil at Monmouth School for Girls, secured a silver medal in the East Wales Under-15 Girls’ 60m hurdles and a bronze in the 800m event.
All three athletes represented Newport Harriers at Day Two of the Welsh Athletics Junior Open, which incorporated the South Wales, East Wales and South West England Championships.
Last month, Antonia enjoyed a barnstorming Day One at the event, racing to the East Wales Under-15 Indoor 300m title and clinching a silver in the high jump.
Josh was crowned the East Wales champion and third overall in the latest under-15 Boys’ event at the Welsh Athletics Junior Open after crossing the finishing line in 5:01.68.
Harry was fourth overall in his race, clocking 5:26.60, and won the East Wales title after beating Brecon’s Arthur Bell, the runner-up, in 5:39.93.
It has been a memorable few months for Harry who was crowned the East Wales Under-11 Boys’ Cross-Country champion at Brecon in November.
Antonia smashed her 60m personal best in the hurdles but missed out on a gold medal in the East Wales standings by just 0.01 seconds.
