Two students helped Glamorgan County Cricket Club’s Academy to two exciting victories against Somerset.

Harry and Joe, both in Year 11 at Monmouth School for Boys, played with confidence in the Twenty20 double-header against Somerset Academy at Taunton Vale Sports Club.

The duo, who also play in the school’s first team, opened the batting together in Glamorgan’s seven-run victory against Somerset.

Harry made 12 runs as Glamorgan posted 84 in 20 overs and then the visitors restricted Somerset to just 77-7.

In the other Twenty20 match, opener Harry led the way, top scoring with 40 from 39 balls as Glamorgan overhauled Somerset’s 121-7 with three balls remaining to seal a six-wicket triumph.

Joe and Harry have also been picked for Wales Under-17s in a successful period for the school’s cricketers.

Theo, Hugo and Harry have been picked for Wales Under-15s, while William and Henry have been chosen for Wales Under-14s and Roahn is playing for Wales Under-13s.

Sam, who bowled against the England cricket team at Bristol, and Michael have been picked for Gloucestershire Academy at Under-17 level, while Gus is representing Gloucestershire Under-13s.

Meanwhile, Monmouth School for Boys will be hosting Glamorgan Seconds against Essex Seconds in a one-day Second XI Trophy match on Monday 10th June (11am).

Monmouth School for Boys last hosted Glamorgan Seconds in July 1996 when the county played Hampshire Seconds in a one-day contest.

The school’s picturesque Sports Ground will also be the venue for Glamorgan Seconds’ three-day friendly against old rivals Worcestershire Seconds, starting on Tuesday 27th August (11am).
