Four pupils at Monmouth School Boys’ Prep ran superbly to capture a team bronze medal in Welsh Athletics’ Welsh Cross Country Championships.

Matthew, John, Josh and Will braved the wind and rain, achieving personal bests and securing third place for Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools in the Primary Boys’ 1,550m race at Pembrey Country Park.

It was a fantastic team effort from the junior quartet – especially considering three of the boys are still in Year 5 and competing against older athletes.

Matthew led the way for Monmouth, coming seventh overall in 5:20 and was closely followed by John, who was eighth, in 5:21.

Josh was the third Monmouth athlete home in 29th place (6:05) and Will was also excellent, finishing 33rd in 6:13.

A pupil at Monmouth School Girls’ Prep ran in the Primary Girls’ 1,550m race and also achieved a personal best.

Carys, a Year 5 pupil, was in fine form and finished 17th in a time of 6:14.
