Mari represents Wales in Futures Cup

A sport and music scholar from Monmouth School for Girls has represented the country for the second successive year at the England Hockey Futures Cup.

Mari, 15, played for Wales Under-17 girls’ representative team in the annual event for the best junior hockey players in the country.

Playing under the banner of Celtic Jaguars, Mari and her team-mates faced regional teams from England and Scotland in St Albans.

The Jaguars battled hard against strong opposition but lost all their matches as the greater resources available to the English teams, in particular, proved decisive.

Mari, who has already been capped six times for Wales, said: “Despite the defeats this was a great opportunity to gain experience in playing tournament hockey against strong opposition and will help us develop individually and as a team.”
