A Sixth Form student at Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools has travelled to the University of Oxford for an inspiring course.
Eleanor, from Year 12, had an amazing experience on It All Adds Up at The Mathematical Institute at Oxford.
“It was an amazing experience and one that I would recommend to any other girl,” said Eleanor, who was among only 150 students from across the country that took part.
“It felt incredible being in a room full of other students who shared similar interests in Maths to me and being able to share such a unique experience with them.
“The course took the knowledge of Maths that I had already learnt and applied it to situations that I may not have thought about before and helped me to see the knowledge in a completely different perspective.”
Eleanor is study Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Computer Science at A level.
She is looking to read Computer Science with Cyber Security at university.
Eleanor had been told about the course by her Maths teacher, Dr Huw Evans, who sent her details on how to apply.
The course is aimed at girls to try to encourage and inspire them to continue with Maths education.
Eleanor took part in lectures delivered by professors at Oxford; was involved in a question-and-answer session with current Maths students at the university, and did hands-on Maths, including past MAT questions (entrance exam questions).
“The course really helped to me understand more about what the educational part of university is like and has inspired me to want to continue with STEM in the future,” said Eleanor.
