Intrepid paddlers coached by fellow students

November 11, 2021

Eight intrepid intermediate paddlers at Monmouth School for Boys enjoyed a flowing section of the Upper Usk from Sennybridge to Aberbran.

The Year 9 group was coached and led by three older students from Years 10 and 11 who were fresh from kayaking in the Tees and Tyne.

In the bright sunshine and spectacular autumn colours, the Year 9 pupils learned about running a river safely and improved their surfing skills in waves and stoppers, in what was a very enjoyable trip.

Staff members Mr Matt Peake, Dr James Harrison and coach Sean Taylor were on hand as back-up and observed some confident leadership and teaching.
