Dr Dan Jones is the Head of Physics at Monmouth School for Boys

An exceptional and inspirational Physics teacher at Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools, who helped colleagues and peers during the Covid-19 pandemic, has won a top accolade.
Dr Dan Jones, Head of Physics at Monmouth School for Boys, has been recognised in the Institute of Physics (IOP) 2022 Teachers of Physics Awards.
The IOP describes Dr Jones as working ‘tirelessly to encourage the most able and those who are intellectually curious, inspiring both girls and boys to choose physics as their one science subject.’
The IOP Awards celebrate the excellence in physics – in research, education, outreach and application; in people at all stages of their careers; in all parts of the UK.
Earlier this year, Dr Jones, who previously taught at Brynteg Comprehensive School in Bridgend, which he also attended as a pupil, won the STEM Learning Teaching Award for Excellence in STEM Teaching – Secondary category.
Dr Jones has more than 6,000 followers on Twitter where he promotes Physics and teaching in general.
An online article on the IOP Awards page says: “Dan is an exceptional teacher who shows outstanding commitment to his pupils.
“He gives up an enormous amount of his time outside of lessons to support the less able students in physics.
“He also works tirelessly to encourage the most able and those who are intellectually curious, inspiring both girls and boys to choose physics as their one science subject.
“He has given many talks in school, for the wider community, and schools further afield. He is a regular, respected and prolific contributor on Twitter.
“Dan has helped dozens of trainee and early career teachers over the years as well as supporting other colleagues and technicians.”
