Inaugural HMSG Foil Championships

Fencers from local schools and clubs, including the Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools, recently took part in the inaugural HMSG Foil Championships.  More than 40 fencers competed aged from eight to eighteen years old.  Archie (The Gollop Preparatory School) was the U9 boys champion.  In the U11 boys competition Rui (The Grange) fought off tough competition from Conner (The Gollop Preparatory School) in the semi-final, winning 10-5 and from Steffan (Llandovery College) in the final, which he won 10-4.

In the U13 boys competition Owain (Monmouth School) came back from 0-6 in his final to eventually win 12-10 in a real nail-biter.  In the U15 boys competition Ivan (Monmouth School) narrowly lost out in the final to Oliver (Wycliffe)12-15.  Monmouth School pupil William was third after losing his semi-final 2-15 to the eventual winner Hugh (Gwent Sword Club).  In the U11 girls competition Sophie (Inglefield House) was third after losing her semi-final 2-10 to the eventual winner Tabitha (Bristol Fencing Club).  In the U13 girls semi-final Alice (Inglefield House) lost to the eventual winner Poppy (Vale Fencing) 3-15.  Lastly, In the U18 girls competition Sapphire and Bea, both from HMSG finished second and third respectfully.
