November 25, 2016

maeve3Hours in the rink have paid off for one dedicated skater who has landed a part in the beautiful Nutcracker on Ice in Cardiff.

Maeve, a pupil at Haberdashers’ Monmouth School for Girls, will take to the frozen stage with professional skaters for the Ice Arena Wales’ Christmas show on December 8 and 9.

The 12-year-old was scouted for the role by coaches at her regular lessons, during which she practises a variety of difficult jumps and spins.

She said: “I’m really excited about the show and learning the different routines.

“My friends will be there in the audience, which is really nice.

“HMSG is very supportive and always lets me go to competitions. I’m working towards the British Championships in ice dance now.”

Maeve trains four times a week and most recently came ninth out of 24 skaters in a nationwide competition in Sheffield.

The ambitious teen fell in love with the sport when she discovered it three years ago.

She added: “Skating gives me a focus. I love the feeling of gliding across the ice.

“I really like wearing the costumes too.”
