The ‘high-quality’ experience of studying History at a Monmouth school has been given a national seal of approval.

The History Department at Monmouth School for Girls has received a Silver Quality Mark by the Historical Association.

The Historical Association is incorporated by Royal Charter and its rolling Quality Mark programme recognises the excellence of history provision in schools.

The Quality Mark assesses and values the history provision of the teacher, their department and the school and what is being offered to young people.

An independent assessor, who visited Monmouth School for Girls, said that the ‘quality of teaching overall was strong, especially in Years 11 and 13’.

And the report concluded: “Students at Monmouth School for Girls enjoy a high-quality experience of History.

“Children are taught well and systems to help them be successful are either embedded or are currently being implemented.”

Mr Seaton, Head of History at Monmouth School for Girls, is delighted with the Silver award – the second highest level issued by the Historical Association.

“Over the last year, the History Department has been engaged in a process leading to the award of a Historical Association Quality Mark,” said Mr Seaton.

“Following submission of a portfolio of evidence and a visit from an assessor at the beginning of October, I am delighted to say that we have been awarded the Silver Quality Mark.”

Rebecca Sullivan, Chief Executive Officer at the Historical Association, said: “I would like to congratulate Monmouth School for Girls on achieving the Silver history Quality Mark.

“The assessor very much enjoyed visiting the school and agrees that the evidence provided matches the criteria for the silver award.

“We support the teaching, learning and enjoyment of history at all levels and bring together people who share an interest in and love for the past.

“We passionately believe that the study of history should be accessible to all people at all levels of study.”
