Runners impress at Pembrey Country Park

Runners from Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools.

Junior cross-country runners clinched a bronze medal at the East Wales Championships in Llanelli.

Matthew, Joshua and Rupert formed Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools’ Under-11 Boys’ A team which took third spot at Pembrey Country Park.

Matthew was the first Monmouth runner home in eighth, while Joshua was 11th and Rupert completed the A team’s scoring in 13th.

The Monmouth trio finished with a 32-point team tally, behind first-place Newport Harriers, with 20 points, and Brecon AC, the runners-up, on 21 points.

The schools’ Under-11 boys’ B team also ran well, achieving joint fifth position alongside Brecon AC B.

Seb was the first of Monmouth’s B team to cross the line in 16th place, closely followed by Thomas, 18th, and Freddie, 19th.

The Under-11 girls’ team at Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools finished fifth in their section.

Jess led the way in ninth, followed by Alice in 16th and Kezia in 19th. Grace, who also ran for the schools, finished a respectable 20th.

The Llanelli meeting also incorporated the second race in the Gwent Cross Country League where Monmouth’s junior runners are making steady progress.

A total of 98 athletes completed the Under-11 Boys’ Gwent League race with Matthew finishing 33rrd in 6:25, Joshua 43rd in 6:38 and Rupert, 47th in 6:39.

Seb was not too far behind in 56th in 6:50, while Thomas was 61st in 6:56 and Freddie, 62nd in 7:00.

A total of 124 athletes finished the Under-11 girls’ Gwent League race.

Jess was the first home for Monmouth, crossing the finishing line 24th in 6:45. Alice finished 57th in 7:23, with Kezia 63rd in 7:28 and Grace 67th in 7:32.

The Monmouth runners are now preparing for the third Gwent League fixture at Bryn Bach Park in Tredegar this Sunday (2nd December).
