Pupils glow in festive Christingle service

December 5, 2016

Beautiful singing filled St Mary’s Church during Inglefield House’s annual Christingle service on Friday, December 2.

Every girl in the school takes part in this candlelit tradition, which included a new twist this year.

Year 3 created a tableaux – living artworks to illustrate each reading in renaissance-style costumes.

Hilary Phillips, Headmistress, said: “Agincourt Nursery’s nativity play kicked off the Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools’ Christmas festivities. There was no time to dry out the handkerchiefs, as this was followed swiftly by the Inglefield House Christingle.

“Once again this was a very special service. The glow of the candles, and the delight and enjoyment of all the girls, created a magical atmosphere.

“Year 6 impressed with their composition, The Fire Within, and also with a dramatic delivery of their poem.

“Narrators projected clearly, and the readings were beautifully illustrated by living tableaux presented by all the girls in Year 3.

“Tabitha, the youngest reader, gave a memorable rendition of the Fall of Humanity, bringing expression and innocence to the message.

“The orchestra, soloists and choirs led the congregation to Rutter’s Star Carol, sung in candlelight with girls positioned around the church, which was genuinely moving. Well done to all who contributed to this special evening.”
