Persephone and the Underworld

June 30, 2016

Talented girls brought a colourful Greek myth to life on stage through original dance routines, beautiful songs and dramatic scenes.

Every girl at Inglefield House, from Year 3 to Year 6, starred in Persephone and the Underworld on HMSG’s main stage on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The impressive show, which encompassed an array of amazing costume changes, Gods and ghosts, told the legend of how the seasons came to be.

Rhyan Parry, Head of Dance at HMSG, was the creative director and producer of the show and choreographed the exciting tap, modern and ballet pieces with dance teacher Zoe Pritchard.

She said: “This is all about educating through dance. The pupils have learned about Greek mythology and the seasons – it’s a holistic approach to education.

“You can’t put your finger on all the fabulous things they are learning.

“The girls have absolutely loved being part of it.

“They have embraced the creativity like all little ones do. They’ve loved the teamwork and the fact that everyone has their own important role to play.

“It has really built up their confidence.”

Inglefield House staff rallied together to coach the girls’ acting skills, run the box office, play live music and provide lighting and sound to ensure the show ran smoothly.

HMSG music teacher, Mike Steer, led the choirs and Claire Watts Jones adapted the story to create the script.

Both audiences agreed the show was a huge success!
