Gymnasts fly through to national finals

Young gymnasts are jumping for joy after finishing second in a highly competitive event to qualify for national finals.

The U11 team from Inglefield House, featuring Harriet, Millie, Zoe and Petra, performed individual floor routines to music as well as taking to the vault at the Sport Wales Centre in Cardiff last Friday.

Ceri Crawford, HMSG’s Head of PE, said: “Despite tough opposition with many girls who attend high-end gymnastics clubs in the city, the Inglefield House team held their own, finishing in a very respectable 3rd position in the Welsh Floor and Vault competition.

“In the afternoon they performed their trio routine which went well. Their scores were then added to the morning events which gave them a combined total. As a result they finished 2nd, qualifying for the British National Milano Trio finals on Saturday, March 12, in Fenton Manor Stoke on Trent.

“With only five weeks to go, lots of practice is needed to perfect their routines to help impress in March. Well done girls!”

Haberdashers’ Monmouth School for Girls’ U16 team, comprising Kia, Megan, Sky and Eliza, followed last year’s success in the qualifiers and demonstrated beautiful routines and show stopping vaults. Mrs Crawford added: “Unfortunately, they were pipped to the top spot by Bishop of Llandaff School by 0.45 of a mark.

“However, still finishing in the top two they qualified for the British National Milano Trio finals, which was the aim of the day. The girls are now setting the wheels in motion to perfect their routines and increase their vaulting difficulties to ensure a top 15 finish at the finals. Good luck ladies!”
