Ellie and Lilly honoured in celebration of Welsh culture

A young musician picked up a coveted award for the second year in a row at a lovely celebration of Welsh culture.

Eleven-year-old Ellie won the Blue Riband competition in Monmouth School Girls’ Prep’s fabulous Eisteddfod on Friday 28th February.

Ellie won the prize for the leading musician at the Eisteddfod after a dazzling performance on the clarinet with her version of Concertino.

Former Director of Music at Monmouth School for Girls, Mr Mario Conway, was the music adjudicator.

There was also celebration for 11-year-old, Lilly, who was crowned the Bard, for her outstanding poem about a Welsh dragon.

Stylish dance routines, well-constructed poetry recitals and polished instrumental and vocal performances by the school’s musicians were enjoyed by a large and appreciative audience.

Imbert Terry won the overall House prize for the Eisteddfod, while Mather Jackson was runner-up, Prosser took third, and Bagnall Oakeley, fourth place.
