Every single pupil in Monmouth School Girls’ Prep whisked two packed audiences back in time for a magical journey through history to celebrate Monmouth School for Girls’ 125th anniversary.
Ambitious dance show, The Archives, featured countless original routines, incredible costumes and faultless performances by ever-enthusiastic girls at Inglefield.
A forces-themed dance was a salute to all the amazing Old Girls of Monmouth, and a mightily convincing synchronised swimming routine commemorated the ‘60s when a water vole became the first to take a dip in the new pool during the opening ceremony.
There was also a hauntingly beautiful dance to remember Old Girls who have been involved in war over the decades and a joyful routine to celebrate women in science today.
Rhyan Parry, Head of Dance at Monmouth School for Girls, said: “The show had it all – it stirred every emotion and there wasn’t a dry eye in the house.
“Every girl on the stage truly loved every second of their performance under the bright lights.
“The girls learn so much from the creative process; discipline, organisation and commitment are needed to produce such a spectacular high standard. It is so much more than dance, drama and singing.”
Ms Parry praised the performers for achieving a performance worthy of senior girls.
She added: “It was the highest level of performance I’ve ever seen with the Monmouth School Girls’ Prep age group. The Archives was an incredibly collaborative project. There was a sense of ownership from everyone involved and it united the whole school community.
“So many ex girls and staff returned to help – it was a very special project in honour of the Old Girls and 125 years of Monmouth School for Girls. I’m sure it will be a life-long memory for all involved. The girls were absolute stars!”
