From dance to design tech, recorders to recitation, every single pupil created or performed a unique piece to win points at their school’s Eisteddfod.

Girls at Inglefield House in Monmouth poured their hearts into every entry during a full morning of exciting performances on Friday.

Asha, 11, was crowned bard thanks to her well-structured poem called Ride to the Sun.

Hilary Philips, Headmistress of Inglefield House, said: “Asha’s poem was about a little daffodil that grows and transforms into a dragon – petals to wings, stalk to scales, trumpet to the dragon’s snout.

“Then the dragon flies up and becomes the sun.

“Asha amazed us with her mature poem, and the rafters were raised by the winning House choir.”

Mrs Philips was proud of each girl’s efforts to win points for their Houses.

“There may be a current worry nationally about the neglect of the arts in education, but that certainly wasn’t in evidence at Inglefield House on Friday,” she added.

“Every single girl participated in over six categories.

“Talented Eleanor proved impossible to beat in the Blue Riband competition, although vocalist Freya gave no quarter.

“Year 3 handwriting results showed that while children may spend rather too long looking at screens nowadays, they can still produce neat, even notes – handy for when the batteries run out!”

Well done to Bagnall Oakeley who won with the most points overall!
