Creative girls dance to success

January 16, 2019

More than 150 students at Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools shone in their dance examinations.

Forty-one pupils at Monmouth School for Girls and 116 at Monmouth School Girls’ Prep have passed their IDTA (International Dance Teachers’ Association) exams with flying colours.

The medal awards took place in an open session which allowed parents and relatives to watch the girls perform on stage.

“A total of 142 Star Dance Awards were achieved by 116 Monmouth School Girls’ Prep pupils in tap and modern styles,” said Ms Rhyan Parry, Head of Dance.

“All girls who attended co-curricular classes during the Michaelmas term had the opportunity to perform their dances on stage in front of thrilled parents.

“The term’s work focused on performance skills and confidence building and, for many girls, it was their first experience of dancing on stage in front an audience.”

Forty-one exam and awards were taken in ballet, modern jazz and freestyle by pupils at Monmouth School for Girls in Years 7 to 11.

The examiner was impressed by the standard of the senior girls.

Some of the highest level performers in modern jazz solo medal awards were achieved by: Emma: President Awards; Lotty: fourth Gold Star, Ella and Georgia: second Gold Bar.

Ballet: Classical Award 1: Lola and Anya; Freestyle Solo Medal Award: Sophia at third Gold Bar.

Ms Parry added: “All the girls enjoyed a hugely positive experience over the two days and the examiner was extremely impressed with all the dancers’ discipline, exam etiquette and performance.”
