PE Curriculum

Monmouth School Girls’ Prep pupils benefit from a varied curriculum of games and activities in their Physical Education lessons each week.

The primary sport in Michaelmas term is hockey and all Prep girls follow a 12 week programme of skills, game principles and competitive play. In years 3 and 4 the aim is to learn the basic skills and how to play safely in small sided games. All girls will play in a fully competitive match against another school by the end of the term and will also participate in House hockey matches. By years 5 and 6 the girls will have gained sufficient skills to play regular matches on Wednesday afternoons against local opposition. All girls have to opportunity to attend a hockey club once a week to improve and refine their existing skills.

Monmouth School Girls Prep Sports Day

During the Lent term the primary sport is netball and girls learn the basic skills during lessons and are able to attend a club to further improve these skills.  There are also numerous opportunities to participate in competitive matches.

Similarly, in the summer term girls will follow a rounders programme and will have competitive opportunities throughout the term. Alongside rounders in the summer term, girls take part in athletics and tennis, both in lessons and extra-curricular clubs. Every child takes part in the annual Sports Day in June and this always proves to be a hugely competitive House event.

Gymnastics and swimming are also a core part of the curriculum in Monmouth Schools Girls’ Prep.
