Besides the acquisition of physical skills, non-physical attributes are equally as important. Co-operation, self-discipline, sharing, self-esteem, leadership, appreciation and perseverance are all promoted through sport.
Our aim is to deliver a broad, balanced programme of sport from which they can develop a love of physical exercise which they will take with them through their teenage and adult lives.
All lessons are taught by Monmouth School for Girls’ staff, most of which have competed or coached at international level. The school also benefits from the teaching, coaching and playing expertise of class teachers and highly experienced internal and external coaches.
We have access to excellent sports facilities which include: a 25metre six-lane indoor swimming pool used for weekly swimming lessons and extra-curricular clubs; a full-size astro-turf pitch used for hockey and lacrosse during the Michaelmas and Lent terms; six full-sized netball courts and eight tennis courts; a sports hall and gymnasium where the girls enjoy gymnastics and dance.
There is a full fixtures list for all sports. We aim to field as many teams as possible from Year 3 to Year 6, with competitions for all ability levels. Most fixtures are held on Wednesday afternoons, with the occasional Saturday training sessions and tournaments for the older girls.
We also enter IAPS and GSA competitions to give pupils the opportunity to compete nationally. To complement our inter-school fixtures, every girl in school also takes part in a full range of house matches.
