Zoo trip explores evolutionary links

October 16, 2019

Year 9 Biologists were able to study a variety of living organisms first-hand recently, during an action-packed trip to Bristol Zoo.

The educational visit enabled pupils to experience how animals are classified into taxonomic groups and to deduce evolutionary links between species.

Biology teacher Mrs. Natt said: “These are vital components of both the GCSE and IGCSE biology specifications.

“During the day, the girls also had the opportunity to attend a special session run by the zoo’s education staff, which included similarities within and between species, classifying invertebrate groups and the five classes of vertebrate animal.”

Students also had the chance to undertake independent study during the trip, focusing on classification, adaptation and evolution.
