Urdd Netball Success

November 28, 2016

The 1st VII travelled to the Welsh Institute of Sport for the National U18 Urdd Tournament, a fiercely competitive event that attracts the top schools and colleges in Wales.

The tournament encompassed a round robin group stage, with the top two going through to qualify for the quarter finals.  HMSG were drawn in an exceptionally tough group, with teams littered with Welsh International players.  However, they performed superbly well, beating teams from Gartholwg, Ystalyfera, Dyffryn Aman, Grwp NPTC (Brecon) and St David’s College.  A narrow 1 goal loss to Cardiff High School meant they finished runners up in the group and qualified for the quarter finals against the reigning National President’s Cup Championships, Neath Port Talbot College.

A fantastic match against Neath saw an empathic 9-4 victory, which put HMSG into the semi-finals, where they met Gwyr.  An 8-2 win meant they were through to the final for the second year running, and would face The Cathedral School Llandaff.  Both schools played some tremendous netball, and it wasn’t quite meant to be for HMSG.  However, to be runners up in such a prestigious tournament for the second year running is an outstanding a achievement.

The team consisted of captain Evie, along with Annabel, Jess, Victoria, Kala, Ellie, Sereima, Issie, Izzy and Poppy.  A brilliant day full of teamwork!  Well played girls!
