Monmouth School for Girls’ Under-13s,

Netballers at Monmouth School for Girls are celebrating after winning three titles and representing the region in a national competition.

It has also been a successful season for pupils Myfanwy, Florence and Beatrice who have gained selection for the South-East Wales Talent Centres.

The school’s under-13s triumphed in the South-East Wales County Cup which saw an entry of 21 teams.

Monmouth’s team recorded victories against Rougemont (10-0), Blackwood (7-0), Bassaleg (5-1) and West Monmouth (13-0) in the group stage.

The Monmouth girls maintained their excellent form to defeat Islwyn 4-2, Newbridge 7-0 and St Joseph’s 9-1 to wrap up the silverware.

The under-12s continued the school’s success, carrying off the county title in a hard-fought competition at Rougemont.

Monmouth won their pool and, despite slipping to a 3-2 defeat against Ebbw Fawr, took the trophy on goal-difference from their rivals.

The Year 9 netballers, known as Habs Fourths, snapped up the Plate title in this season’s Wye Valley League after winning 12 of their 14 matches.

They lost just two fixtures and finished with a goal-difference of 295 to achieve promotion to the Cup division for next season.

The school’s first team represented South East Wales in the Welsh Netball National Competition’s President’s Cup in Swansea.

Having qualified as county champions in February, the under-18s held their own against some of the best schools and colleges in Wales.

They won matches against Ysgol Friars and Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhymni, drew against Coleg Sir Gar and lost to the eventual first and second place finishers, Ysgol Maes Garmon, and Ysgol Gyfun G?yr.
