Sporty couple will bid farewell to Augusta House

February 6, 2018

A sporty couple will be saying goodbye to a “very special boarding community” in Monmouth later this week.

Miss Pippa Williams and Mr Sam Parsons have praised the “tremendous support and guidance” they have received while working at Monmouth School for Girls.

Miss Williams, 24, and Mr Parsons, 25, have been Assistant House Parents at Augusta House – the impressive boarding facility for Sixth Form pupils – for the past 17 months.

The couple are leaving Monmouth to be House Parents at Manchester City Football Club’s Academy.

“Augusta House has a very special boarding community with a vibrant and happy atmosphere and lots of activities in the evenings and at weekends,” said Mr Parsons, a keen rugby player.

Miss Williams, a keen netballer, said: “It has been lovely to see the girls away from a classroom environment and organising fun and inclusive activities. We will both miss the girls and the school very much.”

Miss Williams attended the school in the Sixth Form and spent her gap year working at Chapel House – the boarding facility for pupils aged 9 to 13 at Monmouth School for Boys.

The couple met while studying at Cardiff University and, after graduating, Miss Williams started work as a Graduate Assistant at Monmouth School for Girls’ junior boarding house. During this time, Mr Parsons worked as a Boarding Volunteer.

Miss Williams then moved to the Twiston Davies house – the Middle School boarding facility at Monmouth School for Girls – while Mr Parsons became Assistant Houseparent in Augusta House.

Miss Williams then joined her partner in Augusta in September 2017.

“The House Parents at Augusta House, Julie Ann Morse, and her partner Lee Jones, have been fantastic to us,” said Mr Parsons.

“Julie Ann has given us tremendous support and guidance throughout our time at Augusta and there is no doubt we will remain very close with them when we start our new role.”

Miss Williams and Mr Parsons’ last day at Augusta House is on Friday 9th February.

They kick off their new role with Premier League leaders Manchester City on Monday 26th February.

“We both work in the PE department at the school and our new role at Manchester City is a combination of our passions for sport and boarding,” said Miss Williams.

“We are hugely exciting to begin a new chapter in Manchester but we leave Monmouth and the boarding community with a heavy heart.

“We have over six years’ boarding experience between us and we are thankful to the tremendous support and opportunities we have had at Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools.”

Houseparent Ms Morse said: “It is very hard to see Pippa and Sam go because they will leave a large gap both professionally and personally.

“Lee and I are delighted that Pippa and Sam have secured such great positions but not surprised because they are both talented and able and will, I am sure, go on to achieve wonderful things as they progress through their professional lives.”

She added: “For us, it has been a pleasure to have worked alongside two capable and supportive staff members and an honour and a privilege to have played a small part in shaping their lives. They will be greatly missed by the girls and the community as a whole.”
