Miss Chelsea Lewis hit fine form for Wales.

A sharp-shooting Monmouth netball coach enjoyed a 192 goal-haul at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.

Miss Chelsea Lewis, a coach at Monmouth School for Girls, achieved an impressive 80.67% shooting success rate for Wales in the showpiece competition.

Despite ending winless in a brutal Pool B, Wales finished 11th overall after an emphatic 81-32 victory against Fiji in a play-off match.

Miss Lewis, who played with Celtic Dragons for five years before moving to Team Bath in the Vitality Netball Superleague, started her role at Monmouth School for Girls last September.

She has now featured in two Commonwealth Games and two World Cups.

Wales’ highlight in Australia was a remarkable second quarter triumph against New Zealand, a game in which Miss Lewis scored 21 goals as her team put up a brave fight before losing 70-44.

Miss Lewis scored 39 goals in Wales’ narrow 51-47 loss to Scotland and then picked up 22 in an 85-31 defeat against England.

Miss Lewis netted 34 times in Wales’ 76-40 defeat to Uganda and then snapped up 41 in her side’s 68-53 loss to Malawi in their final pool match.

She led Wales’ attack, scoring 35 goals as Wales defeated Fiji to surpass their previous best-ever Commonwealth Games goal tally of 63, in their final match of the tournament.

Director of Sport at Monmouth School for Girls, Miss Lou Scott, said: “Chelsea represented the school and her country with tremendous pride in Australia.

“Chelsea plays sport on the biggest stage, is an inspiration to the girls at Monmouth and an excellent role model. We are very proud of Chelsea’s achievements at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.”
