School clinches two regional hockey titles

February 7, 2020

Two outstanding hockey teams at Monmouth School for Girls have been crowned South East Wales champions.

Monmouth’s under-16 and under-14 teams hit top form and will now represent the region in their respective age groups at Hockey Wales’ National Schools Finals.

The under-16 team made a good start to their regional campaign before Christmas with victories against Caerleon Comprehensive School and St Joseph’s Roman Catholic High School.

The Monmouth girls then hosted Rougemont School in the regional final and eased to a comfortable victory without conceding a goal.

They will head to Denbighshire later this month to compete in the Welsh finals.

The school’s under-14 team had an excellent regional tournament on their home patch, defeating Caerleon, St Joseph’s and Rougemont to secure a place at the Welsh finals in Swansea.
