Outstanding Performance at Rathbone’s National Schools’ Lacrosse Tournament

March 2, 2015

The 1st XII enjoyed a memorable performance at this year’s Rathbone’s National Schools’ Lacrosse tournament, held at Surrey Sports Park and featuring all of the top lacrosse-playing schools in the country.

In a tough group on day one they fought hard as a team in close matches against Malvern St James (2-0) and St Mary’s, Calne (4-3).  More comfortable victories over Benenden III (10-0), Fettes (7-0) and Claremont Fan Court (7-1) and a narrow loss to Wycombe Abbey (1-3) meant that, for the first time since 2008, HMSG had made it into the elite ‘Championship’ division on day two.

Summoning all of the energy they could muster, the girls ground out victories against St Paul’s(1-0) and Godolphin (3-2) before losing to Lady Eleanor Holles (0-3) which was still enough to make it through to the last sixteen where they beat Caterham (3-2).  Their opposition in the quarter finals was Wycombe Abbey, once again, and they gave it everything but lost 2-4 in an absolute classic.

That Wycombe Abbey and Lady Eleanor Holles met in the final, with Wycombe Abbey finishing victorious, meant that HMSG could hold their heads high in the knowledge that they only lost to the two finalists and were placed 6th in the UK.

All of the girls played out of their skin and were motivated throughout by their coach, Miss Scott, who could not be more proud of them.
