This year’s senior prefects at Monmouth School for Girls are determined to make a difference.

Head Girl, Rachel, and Deputy Head Girls, Esme and Myfanwy, want to give something back to the school community.

All three girls are members of the Mather Jackson house.

Rachel, is studying A levels in Mathematics, Art and Economics.

The 17-year-old wants to build positive relationships with girls from across the school and is looking forward to organising collaborative events with counterparts at Monmouth School for Boys.

Rachel, a keen dancer, is a member of the schools’ Combined Cadet Force (CCF) and is hoping to read a degree in Finance and Accountancy at Bristol or Durham universities.

“We are planning to organise a university challenge event with teachers versus students and, hopefully, it will be a great success and raise money for charity,” added Rachel.

Esme, who enjoys lacrosse, netball and playing the piano, is studying A levels in French, Spanish and Geography.

She would like to read a degree in French and Portuguese at Cambridge or Exeter universities and then live and work overseas using her language skills.

After finishing her A levels at Monmouth, Esme is planning to work in France for a year.

“This a fantastic opportunity to engage with girls from all year groups and give something back to the school which has been such an important part of my life,” said 17-year-old Esme.

Myfanwy, a budding journalist, is studying A levels in PE, English and Psychology.

She is hoping read a degree in English Literature or English Literature & American Studies at university.

Myfanwy, 17, enjoys playing and watching sport and is an active member of the school’s Concert Choir and Chamber Choir.

“We want to be approachable to the other girls in the school,” said Myfanwy.

“I am most looking forward to hearing lots of different people’s ideas and listening to what they have done. I want to encourage the girls to be proud of themselves.”
