Netballers shine on mini tour

January 25, 2017

Netballers from Haberdashers’ Monmouth School for Girls hit the road to showcase their impressive goal-shooting skills on a mini tour last weekend.

HMSG’s 1st and 2nd teams gave every match their all, playing first against Cheltenham Ladies’ College and Dean Close School on Saturday, January 21.

Coach, Caroline Jones, said: “These matches were always going to be hard-fought and closely contested, but the 1st team were winners in both games, scoring 20-12 and 20-15 respectively.

“The 2nd team, despite consistent determination, lost both fixtures but took away a number of tactics and strategies to be adopted the following day.”

Following a quick journey down the M5, the girls arrived at Taunton’s Premier Inn East.

After dinner at the White Lodge Beefeater, and some in-between course entertainment from Mrs Kinman, it was on to Hollywood Bowl.

Mrs Jones added: “Never shy of being competitive, scores were kept and the eventual winner and title of ‘Star Bowler’ went to Izzy.

“King’s College Taunton was the destination for a tournament the next day, with both teams playing four matches.

“The 1st played some fantastic netball and, thanks to their determination, beat King’s College Taunton’s 1st and 2nd VII, the Queen’s Taunton 1st team and HMSG’s 2nd team to remain undefeated for the whole weekend.”

Although HMSG’s 2nd VII players didn’t come out on top, their skills improved vastly during the mini tour and they played some closely-fought matches.

Mrs Jones said: “Every player received an award, courtesy of Mrs Kinman, for an exhausting but fantastic weekend.  Well played!”
