Netball goes from Strength-to-Strength

April 25, 2016

It has been an outstanding season for both the 1st and 2nd netball teams.  Following the success of the President’s Cup final, where HMSG were placed second, the 1st team have taken the Wye Valley League Division 1 title for the third consecutive year; the only team in the history of the league to ever do so.  Outstanding performances in the final two games meant the team remained unbeaten throughout their campaign and they look forward to defending it again next year.

To finish the season, the team additionally won the annual Habs’ 7 Sidwell Trophy for U18 netball, successfully defending their title from last year.  This caps off an outstanding season, where the side have beaten teams from Llandovery, Hereford Cathedral School, Pate’s Grammar, Malvern St James, Wellington School, Shrewsbury School, Christ College Brecon and Cardiff High School, to name but a few.  Their only losses have come to two major colleges in South Wales; Neath Port Talbot and Gower College in respective National events.  The team have comprised of Megan (captain), Sereima, Evie, Jenny, Kala, Poppy, Ellie, Issie and Annabel.

Not to be outdone, the 2nd team claimed the title of Division 2 champions in the Wye Valley League, remaining unbeaten since the split of the league into the two divisions, in January.  This is the first time HMSG have taken this title and the team have worked tactically hard in training in an attempt to seal this title.  Well done to captain Milly, Jess, Lauren, Helena, Harriet, Izzy, Lucy, Annie, and Nina.

The 3rd team finished runners up in Division 2 and have gained great experience from such a competition.  Izzy and Catrin have worked tirelessly as captains, ensuring over 30 girls have represented this team throughout the year.
