A former Monmouth student is celebrating after helping Durham University to a national lacrosse title for the fourth year in a row.

Menna Rose, who captained Monmouth School for Girls, was part of the Durham team which thrashed Cambridge University 14-4 in the Women’s Lacrosse Championship final at BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sports) Big Wednesday.

Menna had 33 on her Durham shirt – the same number she wore for Monmouth School for Girls’ first team and it proved lucky at the showpiece event in Nottingham.

This was Durham women’s lacrosse team fourth consecutive BUCS gold medal, and the final completed a run of 52 unbeaten matches.

The team travelled to Germany a month ago and won an exciting match against the country’s national senior women’s lacrosse team.

Menna skippered Monmouth School for Girls’ lacrosse team from 2013 to 2014 and was also a Deputy Head girl.

The sportswoman, who lives near Monmouth, played lacrosse all the way through school from Year 7.

She is now in her final year at Hatfield College, Durham University, where she is reading Psychology, and is the Club Captain of Durham University Women’s lacrosse.

A defender, Menna has been a member of Durham’s very talented lacrosse first team for the past two years.
