Monmouth students celebrate International Women’s Day

March 10, 2018

Two former students returned to school to celebrate International Women’s Day with Sixth Form pupils in Monmouth.

Flora Coutts and Alex Wilson both studied at Monmouth School for Girls before embarking on successful careers in the world of business.

Chartered accountant Rachel Child, another successful businesswoman, also spoke to Sixth Form pupils at the business event, on Thursday 8th March, in partnership with Monmouth Women’s Festival.

The trio, who were welcomed by Indigo and Francesca, gave a fascinating insight into key issues affecting the business world with a focus on equality.

Flora Coutts read History at the University of Oxford and worked as a head-hunter recruiting lawyers and compliance teams for investment banks and financial services in the City of London.

Alex Wilson works with Harrison Clark Rickerbys and specialises in Family Law, having trained and qualified at Hugh James (Cardiff) before moving to London to work with Kirby & Co in Wimbledon.

Rachel Child trained as a chartered accountant in London, then came back to run the family business in Wales and has recently opened an office in the area.

Headmistress at Monmouth School for Girls, Dr Caroline Pascoe, said: “Our aim is to empower young women and to motivate them to venture into the corporate industry.

“The hugely successful morning was an excellent insight into event management and business networking.

“Our students are potential leaders of the future and we want to equip them with the necessary skills to make them outstanding businesswomen and to raise their awareness of the opportunities for women in business.”
