Monmouth duo guide Wales to European lacrosse bronzeAugust 20th, 2018
Two lacrosse players from Monmouth School for Girls helped Wales to an impressive third-placed finish at the inaugural European Women’s Under-20s Championships in Poland.
Madison captained Wales Under-18s in the competition, organised by Poland Lacrosse Foundation, and was awarded the Best Midfielder accolade.
Bethan, who has just completed Year 11, was also an integral part of the Wales team who secured a bronze medal after a thrilling 10-9 triumph against Germany.
It has been a busy time for Madison, who will be heading to the University of Bath to study Sports and Social Sciences in September after achieving two As and a C in her A levels.
Wales enjoyed big wins against Poland (20-0) and Israel (20-2) but also had to overcome setbacks after defeats to the Czech Republic (16-5) and England (17-2).
Wales put up a brave fight in an 8-6 loss to the Czech Republic in the semi-finals before bouncing back to defeat Germany 10-9 after trailing 8-5 in the last quarter to clinch third spot.
Madison, who is the school’s outgoing first-team lacrosse captain, was joined by Bethan and fellow Monmouth pupils Elinor and Jena in representing Wales Under-18s at the Home Internationals in Scotland in May.
