A 92-year-old woman had an afternoon to remember when she returned to her former school for the first time in 75 years.

Lorna Fildes left Monmouth School for Girls in July 1944 and enjoyed a successful career in the health care industry which took her to Canada and New Zealand.

She now lives at Penpergwm House near Abergavenny and had afternoon tea and cake with Mrs Jessica Miles, the new Headmistress at Monmouth School for Girls.

During her visit, Lorna also watched Monmouth School Girls’ Prep’s dress rehearsal of Winnie Wonka & the Chocolate Factory.

Friend Joanna Hughes, who volunteers at the care home, said: “Lorna had such a warm welcome and was thrilled to have returned to Monmouth School for Girls.

“Lorna is very spritely for her age and it was fabulous to listen to her memories of being at school in Monmouth, her life and her career.”
