Leading economist shares BREXIT research with pupils

May 24, 2018

Leading economist Professor Minford fascinated pupils with his lively and stimulating talk on BREXIT for the Keynes Society during a recent visit.

As always, Professor Minford brings current issues to the fore, with trade agreements dominating the news as the UK negotiates BREXIT. Professor Minford explained the options open to the UK – arguing why a ‘soft BREXIT’ and ‘no trade deal’ are not viable options for the EU and UK – before sharing his research on why a clean BREXIT with free trade has long term gains for the UK. Time for a Q&A session encouraged further debate on the issues raised during the evening.

Professor Minford was awarded a CBE in 1996 for his services to Economics and is currently working as a Professor of Applied Economics at Cardiff Business School.

He has also worked as an Economic Advisor to the Ministry of Finance, Malawi and later adviser to Her Majesty’s Treasury, earning him the title of one of the ‘Six Wise Men’ on H.M. Treasury Panel of Independent Economic Forecasters.

More recently, Professor Minford has also been a member of the group known as ‘Economists for Brexit’, now known as ‘Economists for Free Trade’.
