Budding cricketers at Monmouth School for Girls produced some impressive performances in the Under-15 Twenty/20 Girls Cup.

Rosie snapped up 2-14, Beatrice took 2-27 and captain Florrie hit 17 not out as Monmouth lost by 36 runs at Dauntsey’s School in Wiltshire.

It was the first time some of Monmouth’s side had played hard-ball cricket and they did very well to restrict Dauntsey’s to 125-6.

Rosie and Beatrice took the plaudits with the ball, but Lotte also bowled with precision, chipping in with 1-8.

While Florrie top scored for the visitors, Anna weighed in with nine runs as Monmouth battled hard in the first round match.

Team coach, Mrs Caroline Jones, said: “It was a brilliant experience for the Monmouth girls, who showed tremendous spirit throughout and will learn plenty from the contest.”
