HMSG Pupils celebrate A Level results

August 15, 2014

Huge smiles and sighs of relief broke out as A level students received a glowing set of results at the Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools.

At HMSG, 52.6 per cent of girls achieved A* – A grades – more than double the national average of 26 per cent. Many students won their first choice places at university, with several heading to Oxford or Cambridge to fulfil their dreams.

Mrs Caroline Pascoe, Headmistress at HMSG, said: “I am so proud of the girls’ results today.

“Whether they achieved A*s or Bs and Cs, they all worked extremely hard and their dedication has paid off.

“HMSG has achieved above and beyond the national average for A* – A grades, which is testament to the hard work and passion of our staff and pupils.

“All of the girls are ready to set off and change the world in their individual ways, and I cannot wait to see what they do next.”

More than half of all exams at HMSG graded at A* or A. A total of 18.1 per cent were awarded A* grades, which was nearly 10 per cent above the national average of 8.2 per cent. And 77.5 per cent received A* – B grades. More than a third of all candidates (38 per cent) achieved three or more A/A* grades. Roshani has won her place to study Natural Sciences at Cambridge with two A*s in Biology and Physics and two As in Chemistry and Maths.

She said: “It hasn’t sunk in yet.

“I put in a lot of hours.

“I want to go into research, perhaps drug development.”

“I will work until Christmas and then I’m going to Ghana to work in an orphanage.Marianne achieved four A*s and will study Law and German at Oxford; Rachel won her place at Cambridge to study Engineering with three A*s and an A and Charlotte is off to Oxford to study Medicine thanks to achieving two A*s and two As. Menna was thrilled to receive an A* and two As and will study Psychology at Durham University after a gap year. She said:

“I’ve always wanted to do it.

“Because I’m going to study Psychology it will be good for me to work with different types of people and help me to grow up a bit.

“I want to get out into the wide world.

“I worked really hard for the exams – I’ve never been so stressed in my life.”

The sporty student has also excelled on the lacrosse pitch this year, winning her first full cap for Wales U19 last weekend. She now stands a chance of playing in the U19 lacrosse World Cup team next summer in Scotland.
