Gymnast flies into second position at championships

elizainA dedicated gymnast, who trains more than 10 hours a week, has vaulted into second place at a regional championships.

Eliza, a pupil at Haberdashers’ Monmouth School for Girls, won silver in the West Midlands Out of Age Championships in Birmingham at the weekend.

The 13-year-old was “chuffed and quite surprised” to come second, but was consistent throughout the competition, coming either third or fourth on each rotation.

Ceri Crawford, HMSG’s Head of PE, said: “Eliza is a dedicated and enthusiastic gymnast who always matches her commitment to her club to the HMSG school team.

“In this most recent competition she was able to land a back flick on the beam for the first time which is excellent.”
