The hard working hockey players from a Monmouth school are celebrating after winning through to the national finals next month.

The under-14 team at Monmouth School for Girls clinched Hockey Wales’ South-East Wales title after storming to a 3-0 victory against Rougemont School, Newport, in the area final.

It has been an impressive tournament for the Monmouth girls who won the county cup after beating King Henry VIII Comprehensive School, Abergavenny, 4-1 and Caerleon Comprehensive School 2-1.

It is only the second time that Monmouth have entered a team into the competition and the girls will be aiming to push for honours at the Welsh Schools’ finals on Tuesday 20th March.

Midfielder Olivia said: “We played very well as a team in the South-East Wales final and worked hard throughout.
“It was a very good team performance and our goalkeeper, Elinor, was outstanding and made three top-class saves.”

She added: “We are very excited about the Welsh finals but we must continue to work hard in training and play together as a team because the level of competition will be very high.”
