European Youth Parliament

March 10, 2015

On Friday 27th March a group of 9 pupils, comprised of both HMSG girls and MS boys, headed to Cardiff to take part in a day of debating at the European Youth Parliament regional heat, held in the Pierhead Building. In this historic setting, we engaged in lively discussion over EU issues such as reliance on external energy sources and provision of aid to victims of IS. We took to the stand as the proposition in a debate on how to improve financial education within Europe. I opened the proposition case with a speech outlining our suggested solutions and Rory closed, with a well-crafted conclusion which perfectly summed up the debate. The day was enjoyed by all, with each team member contributing to the discussion, leading us to get some great feedback. It was a useful experience, which will help us develop public speaking skills and confidence for further debate in the future.
