A dedicated teenage swimmer from Monmouth School for Girls has carried off a top club honour.

Ellie, 15, picked up the leading accolade in the female 15 to 16 age group at the City of Newport Swimming and Waterpolo Club’s awards evening.

The Year 11 pupil was recognised for her success in the club championships and received the honours from City of Newport Swimming and Waterpolo Club’s head coach, James Goodwin.

Last month, Ellie shone on the national stage, scooping a bronze medal in the 100m breaststroke at the Welsh Winter Open Championships. Ellie raced to a personal best-time in the female 15 to 16 age section.

The teenager holds a sports scholarship at Monmouth School for Girls and successfully balances her swimming alongside her academic studies.

Ellie took up the sport when she was eight years old. She previously swam for Chepstow before moving to the high performance centre at Newport, and was part of the Welsh squad in the 13 to 15 year old age group.

At the end of last season, Ellie stormed to a gold medal in the 200m breaststroke and clinched a silver medal in the 50m breaststroke at Swim Wales’ Summer Open Meet in Swansea.
