A dedicated teenager has got the footballing world at her feet after gaining selection for two national squads.

Fourteen-year-old Ellie (wearing the number 6 shirt) made her debut for England Women’s Under-15s last month.

She has now been picked for the Independent Schools Football Association Girls (ISFA) Under 16s National Representative Squad.

It is deserved recognition for the Monmouth School for Girls pupil, who trains three times a week with Bristol City Women Youth Academy, and plays matches at weekends for the club’s under-16s in Tier Two Midlands.

“Playing for England has been my dream ever since I was little and to actually achieve it was an incredible feeling,” said Ellie, who cut her footballing teeth at Garden City Girls and has attended national performance camps with the FA over the last two years.

“We had a proper warm-up and sang the national anthem. I was nervous before the match but I was pleased with how it went.”

Ellie played in central defence for the full match as England drew 1-1 with their Scotland counterparts at St George’s Park – the FA National Football Centre.

The teenager, who supports Arsenal, plays in midfield for ISFA team and is looking forward to their training camp next month.

“Unfortunately, I felt unwell on the day of the (ISFA) trial but I wanted to do it so I spent a day with them over half-term,” she said.

The two-day ISFA training camp also takes place St George’s Park, starting on Tuesday 12th December, and includes fixtures against Scotland and Shropshire Schools.

Ellie’s long-term ambition is to play for the full England Women’s team.

She also wants to secure a sports scholarship to the USA and travelled to the country over the summer to visit a university in Florida.

Mrs Hutchings, Head of Year 10, says Monmouth School for Girls is proud of Ellie’s achievements both on and off the field.

“Ellie is a very talented sportswoman who also excels in sports at school and is a very capable swimmer,” said Mrs Hutchings.

“The FA takes the educational success of its players very seriously and Ellie has to complete dedicated study sessions whilst training at St George’s Park.

“Ellie always receives glowing reports and we are very proud of her and are keen to support her sporting ambitions.”
