Crime and intrigue were the order of the day during a fascinating talk by Young Adult and Adult crime author Christi Daugherty.

Year 8 students were treated to stories of her life as a crime reporter in America, as well as the time she helped to manage news releases in London for the MI5 during terrorist operations.

Speaking to pupils from Monmouth School for Girls, Monmouth School for Boys and Monmouth Comprehensive School as part of the Monmouth Literary Festival, Christi also revealed how she came to be a writer, and touched on her early years as a child.

She told students that she discovered libraries and found that books could take you to worlds you would never imagine, before urging pupils to read widely. She then talked about her teen crime series Night School, inspiring many students to buy booths.

Christi – who has appeared at the Literary Festival in previous years – managed to squeeze in a visit despite a heavy work schedule, telling staff that she had made time because she is so fond of the schools.

“Monmouth and its schools are my favourite, she said.
